  • Drinking well. Persistent length with a little age character coming through, a hint of dryness on the finish. Beautiful gold colour indicating it's age

  • Old leak and level 4.0cm below cork, the smell of the now black-coloured and saturated part of which reminded me of dried dates. Consumed in one sitting. Fullish yellow with golden hue. White and yellow fruits on the nose, minor wax in the background. Good kabinett weight, restrained sweetness and graceful, with concentrated yellowish stone-fruit pungency at the middle. Finishing on the dry side. Very good plus and with no deterioration over a couple of hours.

  • In mid-August last year, I privately noted that, at just shy of 15 years, this was looking in great shape. Mid yellow. A nose that was essentially pear, but after an hour, peach had emerged. The palate was peachy, though brisk and refreshing as it should be with a lovely and pungent nectarine finish. That bottle was in prime condition and boded well for the future.

Onto a bottle opened on 1st September 2023 : a delicious-looking bright medium yellow, though less so on the 2nd day - with just a glass-worth remaining in the bottle - when it took on a golden colour. Cummin is what the nose detects first. Yellow peach follows, with the ripeness of this warm vintage just mischievously hinting at the producer's Josephshofer vineyard. On the 2nd day, it wasn't quite as interesting, with the ripeness overshadowing the nuances of the 1st day and bringing to mind the exceptionally ripe 2005 vintage under this label. But, in fairness, there was only a glass-worth remaining in the bottle to assess on the 2nd day. A nice white fruit pungency in the mouth, with the sugars almost fully resolved and finishing very close to dry on the 2nd day. Based on the 1st day, very good plus on the 1st day, but less so on the 2nd. Best to drink in one sitting.

  • Candied orange zest nose. Mouth is medium weight with the slightest hint of sweetness left. Some richness and also acidity on the palate with orange zest and tropical fruit. I can't see any upside to storing this enjoyable wine longer, so drink up. Cellared since original release.

  • a well balanced wine with some off-dry palate presence cleaned up by refreshing acidity, but not too much, everything in the right proportion. Fruit still lively and delicious with peaches and kumquats and underlying mineral tones of typical petrol, but again restrained. Age has been kind to this wine, and i believe it will still be going strong past its first decade.
