This was reticent if not closed on opening - nice blood on the nose, and lots of mineral and chalk but little fruit on the first night. Second night was much better, with a well balanced Syrah that paired well with pasta with sausage. Opened on a whim, and will wait a while before the next.
This was very shy and reticent on opening and took every bit of 5 hours to open( opened, not decanted) but when it did, it was really quite extraordinary with flavors of rich cassis, earth, leather, sanguine notes and perhaps the very barest suggestion of green peppers. There was abit of white pepper on the longish finish. The tannins, while not particularly obtrusive, are still quite firm and chalky. Even though this is still young, after a few hours this was really drinking well.
