  • This wine confuses me a bit, but it's growing on me. It is nothing like the fruity and fresh Shiraz I've been drinking. According to the winery, "This Syrah has aromas of black cherry and dark plum, with hints of coffee, vanilla and toasted oak. With medium tannins, and mouth filling dark fruit flavors counterbalanced by tart cranberry, this wine exhibits a smooth, spicy finish." I might have detected the plum-- but it tasted over-ripe to me, and the coffee--which I don't like, but the finish was the taste of dusty dirt and raisens. Had with pork chops. Unless I have a bad bottle, this may be a style I've not had before. Not sure I can acquire the taste.

"Leather, wet leaves, earth" is a description I am told applies to aged Syrah, and I think I can agree with that. It is softer the next day, with cold pork and cheese. Also pepper, with dark fruit in the back.

That night, with lamb chops, quite nice as an acquired taste. I keep thinking of cigars. With the lamb, the very dark fruit does reveal itself. I doubt I will grow to like this style much, but I'll try another, younger, bottle.
