  • This pours light garnet in the glass with light bricking. The nose is aromatic and complex from the first pour showing tart strawberry, dried cranberry, dried orange peel, cinnamon, sassafras, cola, leather, a kiss of nutty oak, and dry dusty soil. The palate enters on strawberry accented with dried orange peel. The tannin is sanded down, medium minus, and with medium plus acid. Almost wondering if there is some acidifcation here? The finish lingers impressively replaying sassafras and leather. All in all, this was a pleasant surprise. I bought two of these 13 years ago and drank one on release, and I recall it being good, but had modest expectations for how it would age. When I selected this tonight I was concerned I wouldn't like it all that much, but this was quite good. Age has been generous to this wine producing a profile that is hugely enjoyable to this old world palate. The 14.1% alcohol really doesn't show here and the profile is restrained and shows elegance without any excessive ripeness, oak or extract. The tech sheet reveals this was aged in 41% new oak but its well managed and integrated here providing subtle spice. If tasted blind I think I'd go toward a warmer year from burgundy or a very restrained new world producer. Well done! Wish I had more. A screaming bargain for the $35 CAD I originally paid for it.

  • This bottle near the end but still acidity and strawberry fruit.

  • So sad, a faded pinot this wine is past it's time.

  • Garnet red; pomegranate/ red current nose, later a little smokey; subtle spritzy feeling for the first 30 minutes, very fresh red cranberry and earthy; after 1 hr softer palate feel and more mature herbaceous flavors; med long finish in a serious very food friendly style, not my choice for a sipping wine.
