Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.9 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 55 notes)

Tasted by jahlove on 2/6/2010 & rated 93 points: Still primary but showing well in its youth. Beguiling nose of burnt toast, ripe dark fruits, garrigue, and fig. Deftly balanced on the palate, very forward at the moment. Fruit and structure in balance though. Should age beautifully. Interesting to see when and if this shuts down. (596 views)
Tasted by ViaDomitia on 2/6/2010: I drank this a monthy ago, I keep reading wonderful review and keep on thinking that my bottle was one of those cooked British Columbia bottles. The wine was not "flawed" per say, but really had nothing going on. no nose, no palate. just bland. not bad, just nothing there. I have a couple of bottles bought in Seatle. will try one of those soon. No Rating. (573 views)

Tasted by rogerr on 1/9/2010 & rated 92 points: Nice integration and balance. Dunking nicely (from 375) (1633 views)
Tasted by cpsmith33 on 12/26/2009 & rated 92 points: great nose, smokey/spice/dark fruits/herbs. medium bodied. long finish with good tannins. needs time.

Tasted by Kdawg on 12/15/2009 & rated 92 points: nose: distinctive and plush nose of hot stones, garrigue, dark red fruits, black fruits, some bits of roasted meats, black cherries, and bits of spices. Real good depth and very expressive on the nose

taste: plush and suave medium/full feel with good firm tannins and well balanced tones of black fruits, garrigue, black cherries and various spice tones. Excellent depth that has a real silky way about it

overall: This showed fairly young. Doesn't have the chewier tannins that the 05 has, but this does have the depth and shows off the 07 vintage very well. This has a real nice expressive side to it and a good amount of polish, this can really blossom in a few years (1831 views)
Tasted by Haltermr on 12/14/2009 & rated 93 points: Perfumed white and purple flowers float above a powerful core of dusty blackberry, blueberry, horehound, char, and spices. Palate enters very compact, then explodes through the midpalate with a moderately long, tannic mineral finish. Best days are ahead. (2795 views)
Tasted by Anonymous on 12/10/2009 & rated 87 points: Drank at Le Crocodile – No formal notes. Decanted for 1 hour. Ripe red fruits with some oaky notes as well. Obviously very young and needs lots of time, but I still expected more from this. Hopefully time in the cellar will greatly improve this. Hold. Good. 87+ (2460 views)
Tasted by sethmlong on 12/10/2009 & rated 89 points: From 375mL. Wine is clear but opaque, high intensity. Deep violet purple body to a violet rim, appears youthful, with little rim variation. On the nose, the wine in healthy, with moderate+ intensity and youthful aromas of dark red fruits - ripe strawberries cherry and slight earth tones of pebbles and wet clay with baking spices, cedar and wet ash. On the palate, the wine is dry, moderate + acids, moderate - tannins, medium + body, slightly unbalanced but not dumb with moderate complexity and a long finish with primary notes of raspberry ganache, chocolate, provencal herbs, glycerine, jammy fruit and a hint of smoke. Quite enjoyable though not fantastic. I think 2007 CdP's will be very forward wines, we'll see how they develop. (2671 views)
Tasted by sehill on 12/9/2009 & rated 92 points: This wine was decanted and poured. It showed well from beginning to end. The wine added weight, definition and texture with airing. The wine showed a youthful, brawny personality with the tannins and acidity providing texture and grip. The aromatics show raspberry, earth, granite, leather, tar, spice and black cherry notes. The color is a dark ruby to purple that is appropriate for the wines age. The medium/full bodied palate shows outstanding length, depth and nuance. This wine will benefit from a few years of bottle age. (2690 views)
Tasted by geoffucla on 12/5/2009 & rated 90 points: Clear dark red. Red fruits on the nose, primarily cherry with a bit of raspberry ganache. Also an herbiness. Provencal herbs excluding the lavender. On the palate, more of the same. Definite herbal quality following the intense fruit. A fair amount of glycerin accompanies the fruit and herbs to make it a mouthcoating full-bodied wine. At this point the wine is clearly young with no significant layers of flavor, but I'm sure that given a few years, this should develop quite nicely. Already with a couple hours of decanting, the tannins and acidity integrate well, but it just needs time for the complexity to improve. 90 now, but potentially 92+ in 3-5 years. (2855 views)
Tasted by christopher wish on 11/20/2009 & rated 95 points: stellar but young. decanted after initial taste for 6 hours. filled out a bit but needs a handful of years before it will get going. (3351 views)
Tasted by ColinR on 11/18/2009 & rated 92 points: Deep crimson; blackberries, black cherries, smoked meat, herbs; ripe blackberry, sweet cherry, silky, noticeable glycerin, medium-full body, good structure, good grip, ripe coated tannins, lingering finish.
Decanted 2 hrs. Very closed. Big fruit and structure but not very complex. Sooo young, not sure how good this will eventually be. (3816 views)
Tasted by amateurwino on 11/5/2009 & rated 93 points: Tasted on 11/5, and again at a dinner on 11/22, consistent notes. Meaty with dark notes on the nose, with a roasted sweet note that almost reminds of caramel or popcorn at certain times. Very different from the 2006. Tannic on the palate, savory and peppery. Smooth and powerful at the same time. This was my favorite wine at two different CdP tastings, beating out 06 VD, 06 and 07 V. Telegraphe, 01 Beaucastel, 07 Clos des Papes (closed). Very similar to the 07 Vieux Telegraphe, but this is a shade deeper and darker. This is very nice, 92-93 for me, but probably deserves higher for true CdP fans. (3187 views)
Tasted by d'Artagnan on 11/5/2009 & rated 93 points: Parmi 4 Rhône 2007 en semi-aveugle.
(4045 views)
Tasted by bigwineguy420 on 11/4/2009: Bright red ruby in color. Tight, traditionally styled wine. Shows some raspberry and black currant. Nice, but not particularly revealing. Looked really light in color vs. the 1998 we had next to it. I wonder where this will go, but I'm sure it's going to be good with some time. (4096 views)
Tasted by Jwobkk on 11/3/2009 & rated 93 points: Consistent with my prior note on this wine. This is still tight and is begging for a decade in the far corner of the cellar. In time this will be sensational. Very dark in color and much more earthy than most of the other 07 CDPs. (4462 views)
Tasted by Tarrant on 10/24/2009 & rated 93 points: Drank this alongside the 2004 for kicks and giggles, major intensity and depth that put's it slightly ahead, but infanticide at this point needing a few more years to open up - Dark, full-bodied and a nose of cherry, plum, cinammon spice, pepper, clove and vanilla, intense, balanced, early complexity, smooth/tart on the palate with terrific length (93 Points). (4741 views)
Tasted by TJolley on 10/15/2009 & rated 93 points: Decanted for about an hour and a half. Very good wine, nice balance of flavors and very smooth, but was expecting a much more extracted, intense style. Not near as much flavor as I was expecting, I would recommend letting this one breath for 3-4 hours to get the most out of it in such a young state. (5280 views)
Tasted by dmalcolm on 10/12/2009 & rated 92 points: After 3 flawed bottles, found a nice one. Medium bodied, dark fruits, licorice, and pepper. Tasted closed. Opened up slightly after a few hours, but needs more time. (5614 views)
Tasted by lebanonOHwinelover on 10/11/2009 & rated 89 points: Kind of like a slightly over-hyped blind date: Big expectations, nervous anticipation. . . but she just was not as pretty as your friends said she was. Not bad looking, just not great. Had with Beef Burgundy. (5349 views)
Tasted by tooch on 10/8/2009 & rated 90 points: 2007 Southern Rhone Tasting (Bell's): This glass had a dirty nose; some bandaids, coffee, wet leaves, and manure. Pretty interesting. The wine itself was showing a bit thin, with sweet cranberry notes and an old school cherry cola flavor too. It will be interesting to see this bottle develop over time - it's VERY young and immature at this point. (5488 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 10/5/2009: Purple. Lots of red fruit notes in the nose. Raspberry, blackberry and I think pepper. The nose even shows a bit of creamy vanilla oak. Later there seems to be a smoky element as well. Very nice red fruit flavours and lots of structure.

There has been a bit of concern in Vancouver about some bad bottles. Not this one. I won't lie, I love this one. (5920 views)
