Intoxicating and exotic on the nose for Volnay with copious spice, flowers, minerals, deep rich ripe red fruits, slight hints of oak spice. Concentrated and seemless on the palate. Essentially flawless and slightly on the voluptuous and giving side of the spectrum but overall, excellent. This is also a Chambolle-Musigny style of Volnay with the emphasis more on purity and silky elegance than on Volnay's signature gravelly minerality. A sweet aroma of maple syrup contributes nearly as much to its overall lusciousness as the sappy fruit and fine texture, though the aroma quiets down with air and doesn't introduce any flavors to compromise the purity of the fruit on the palate. A superb 60 Ouvrées that once again makes a case for its spot in the Holy Trinity of Volnay. Medium weight with excellent concentration (and no overconcentration) of fruit, harmonious, downright silky, gentle and long. Subtle wood base, lower acidity than many of these wines. Lovely, seductive wine and one of the best '06s I've tried so far. Granted, this is a little loose and not destined for a long life, but it is full of pleasure now. (861 views) |
| By Bill Nanson Burgundy-Report (4/1/2008) (Pousse d'Or Volnay Clos des 60 Ouvrées) Medium-plus colour. The nose is a mix of oak and dark fruit elements. There's plenty of tannin but it's set against beautiful dark fruit and mouthwatering acidity. Again super. | NOTE: Scores and reviews are the property of the Burgundy-Report. About red wine
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne)
Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

2007 annata di grande interesse anche per i rossi, leggibili ed espressivi come raramente avviene per i Borgogna così giovani.
