  • No decanting in this case, but we opened the bottle and let it breathe for about 2 hours. Dark ruby color with minimal bricking. Very expressive nose with mature notes of cherries, black currants, and tar. Very good acidity, minerals, then brooding fruits on the palate with cherries, black currants, blackberries - then lots of secondary, complex notes of coffee beans, forest floor, and eucalyptus come out. Medium-grippy tannins, long ending with spice, black pepper, and oak.
Such a great wine! Very layered, complex - developed but still youthful - with not much in terms of tertiary notes out there. In a great spot - give it some air but not too much if you can. We paired it with beef stew and was a delight. Worth every penny!

    P.S.
    - I had it the same night I had Guado al Tasso 2017. Both are great wines. I scored this one slightly higher because it’s more developed given the age. Guado al Tasso has the same scoring potential. Different wines, with the Mkndavi today more structured and less fruit/forward than the still young Super Tuscan.

  • From auction, clean cork. Splash decanted, very little sediment. blackberry, plum, black cherry, cedar and a hint of dark chocolate. Silky mouthfeel. Dense fruit, nice acidity, fully resolved. Alcohol just a bit noticeable, but doesn’t derail a lovely, restrained Cali cab.

  • The cork was a little soft but after a 4 hr decant the wine came alive as compared to my initial taste. A surprising amount of Acity. Certainly not high acid, but more than I was expecting With proper cellar aging I think another 5-7 yrs of potential

  • Not much evolution here, a bit bland and simple.
