Straight out of the bottle, this wine has very little nose. Very muted fruit, almost to the point of being undetectable. First impression was a smoke flavor, followed by very little fruit but some residual tannin. Some acidicy but not much. The wine is smooth but lacks depth. I had higher hopes for this wine given Parker et all ratings for this domaine. Will see if this wine matures over the next few hours / days.
Day 2 and this wine is tasting much better. Nothing profound, but still smooth and supple. This wine won't explode in your mouth, but it's easy drinking for sure.

Everything a traditional hermitage should be at this age. All of the notes youd expect but just so smooth. Still has some body, nice deep color, so purple. Purple fruited bacon pepper. No oak. Just great. Buy on sight.

2008 & 2009 Rhone Valley (K&L Wine Merchants, San Francisco, CA): My favorite of the afternoon's tasting. Amazing coffee beans on the nose and palate, some barnyard funk to the nose, very little oak component, the mid-palate blew my mind with it's intensity, incredibly smooth finish. Wow!

Rhone, Including a Peek at 2009 Chateauneuf (K&L Wines, San Francisco): Medium center, browning rim. Some funk and greener notes. Lean, herbaceous and dry, but the fruit does manage to cover up the structure. Much more typical French Syrah than either of the other 2 Northern Rhones poured. Some austerity on the end but good nonetheless.
