  • A lovely St. Emilion with good age. Great tertiary flavours and packed with dark fruit, leather and hints of graphite. 1983 is definitely an underestimated year for Angelus but don’t sit on any bottles for too long.

  • Not showing a lot at this stage, drink up.

  • Very pale slightly translucent amber; red licorice, wet leaves, cummin-tumeric, pot-pouri, furniture varnish burnished cabinet--you get the idea. Showing strong signs of age but everything in tact and quite appealing. Very light, fine dusty tannins, in great shape despite the vintage and this being pre-renovation of the estate. Obviously a lighter style that did not score well then, but held some nice surprises. Drink now, do not wait. This is pre-1erGCCA, and pre-name change from L'Angelus to Angelus. High-End Bordeaux Tasting at Monopole.

  • VHS. Leather, sour cherry. Hint of Brett. Some fruit still in the mix, but becoming a touch tannic and drying. Hanging together but on the decline. (89 Good wine)

  • Bottom neck fill and very good cork, still dry at the top. Rather developed color with a garnet that is turning mahogany outside of the very center. A fine and elegant wine with earth and red fruit like strawberry jam, a fine touch of leather, tannins completely gone, rather short finish. Would have guessed Burgundy from the 80s blind.
A nice wine but for an 1983 and for what has now become a Grand Cru Classe A producer it is rather underwhelming. Drink up.
