Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 29 notes)

Tasted by RationalDenial on 8/15/2010: Second bottle of this. I'd say for the price, this is difficult to beat. It shows precise, pure fruit. Nice autolytics. Nervy energy. It's dry but not austerely so (as a brut zero). I'm a fan. (166 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 7/11/2010 & rated 89 points: Nice hints of toast and citrus on the nose. Dry, bright and clean. (357 views)
Tasted by RationalDenial on 6/28/2010: Precise and pure. Great cut. Fresh and energetic. Beauty of a finish. This is really an exceptional value if you can find it. And the label is pretty too. (456 views)
Tasted by asgerG on 3/25/2010 & rated 90 points: Nice mousse, hay coloured. Quite expressive nose, yeast and bread. Crisp razerblade like taste, some mellow impressions fighting its way forward as well. (886 views)

Tasted by SteveG on 12/6/2009 & rated 92 points: Delicious mature intense but lighthearted champagne! Very dry, very bright and clean with a lovely gloss of toast and yeast. Pinot noir flavors with chardonnay delicacy. (1495 views)
Tasted by moben on 10/11/2009 & rated 93 points: (1952 views)
Tasted by Shorepower on 10/5/2009 & rated 86 points: At the hotel before dinner in Epernay. As alwyas this delivers with high value, The zero dosage makes it a very good starting dring and it's balanced by the Pinot grapes. Not as good as the bootle before. (2175 views)
Tasted by Shorepower on 10/1/2009 & rated 88 points: Even in Reims, this is really a good appretizer. No dosage but still balanced. For the price €17, a real bargin.

Did also taste Andrë Clouet Rosé. Compared to Silver Brut a much weaker champagne. (2183 views)
Tasted by Shorepower on 8/29/2009 & rated 88 points: André Clouet Grande Réserve och Silver Brut på resturang. (2248 views)

Tasted by foje on 6/2/2009 & rated 85 points: dette var en super chapagne , som luktet bær og frukt , men det første som kom i nesen var nybakt brød (2546 views)
Tasted by vinamok on 1/26/2009 & rated 91 points: the last Clouet unfortunately. a very nice champ with great structure and a bread, nuts aroma that make me think about very great champagne. very NICE! (2842 views)
Tasted by dbp on 12/20/2008 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured at cellar temperature. Lots of medium sized bubbles. Nose shows truly pure aromas of strawberry, apples, and pears. Such a pleasing, succulent smell. Mouthfeel is creamy, almost like shooting whip cream in my mouth, showing dusty flavors of attic dust mixed with baking soda, and a hint of sulfur. Lots of minerals on the finish... feels like chewing up quartz covered in apple juice. Drinking alone, but this would probably be even better with food. Again Clouet is offering amazing value with this wine... great stuff. I give a slight overall edge to the Rosé, but they are different wines and I will keep both around. It's time to explore his vintage wines. (2885 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 10/26/2008 & rated 89 points: a non-dosage blanc de noirs, very interesting. and you'd never guess from smelling or tasting - this is rich and broad wine with lots of juicy fruit on the nose, and a pleasant biscuity character. there is good depth to the palate. bold and rich, lots of muscle, spicy fruit, a fragrant chalky finish. with air time there is a toffee like sensation on the palate. i'm not sure, but i'm guessing that there is malo here, which is a bit of a shame, as with a bit more cut this would have been an outstanding wine. as it is, it's a bit soft. lovely though.  Tasted by steffenpelz on 9/1/2008: Labor Day Wines: Much better than the last bottle. Same flavor profile, but a lot finer mousse and bead. I would describe this as apple peel, citrus zest, and crushed minerals. Absolutely awesome. (2979 views)
Tasted by steffenpelz on 8/10/2008: This is really nice. Great citrus and apple. Bone dry in a good way. The only deduction I have to make is that the bead and mousse are too coarse and the wine consequently turns flat too quickly. Otherwise a solid Champagne, especially for those who like non-dosage Chamapgne. (2999 views)

Tasted by Filippo on 3/30/2008 & rated 93 points: Smells like rad Pinot Noir, tastes like a great Blanc de Noirs. You can't have enough of this Champagne! (3156 views)
Tasted by JWG on 3/29/2008 & rated 90 points: Very clean taste and aroma. Went wonderfully with some just picked little neck clams up here in Wellfleet. Delicious non-dosage champagne (3156 views)
Tasted by gasman on 2/10/2008 & rated 90 points: (2950 views)
Tasted by Winetex on 1/24/2008 & rated 89 points: Very dry, no-dosage champagne. With time it opened up a bit - the fruit flavors reflect 100% Pinot Noir - berries and red apple flavors. Not an apertif champagne as it needs food to shine. Very large bubbles and mousse. It was a champagne that was hard to get a handle on. At ~ $40 it is on the borderline of value. (3379 views)
Tasted by JWG on 12/23/2007 & rated 91 points: Very clean, fruit-filled. Nutty, clean aroma. Great non-dosage champagne. (3326 views)

Definition of "sparkling wine" at Wikipedia
Varietal character (Appellation America) | Varietal article (Wikipedia)
Pinot Noir is the Noble red grape of Burgundy, capable of ripening in a cooler climate, which Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot will not reliably do. It is unpredictable and difficult both to grow and to vinify, but results in some of the finest reds in the world. It is believed to have been selected from wild vines two thousand years ago. It is also used in the production of champagne. In fact, more Pinot Noir goes into Champagne than is used in all of the Cote d'Or! It is also grown in Alsace, Germany, the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Croatia, Serbia, Italy, and so forth, with varying degrees of success.

France - When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them. Click for a list of bestselling items from all of France. Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (comprised of the towns of Rheims, Epernay, and Ay) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and winemaking traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range from the basic brut (often blends of several vintages), single vintage champagnes, and rose.
