Just a lovely, classic wine. A bit lean but everything I want in an aged Bordeaux. My guess is that this wine needed the structure of the 1989 vintage. It would likely fall apart in the leaner years. Great QPR
Quickly double decanted for sediment and then left to slow O in bottle for about 90 minutes. This showed a beautiful aged Bordeaux nose, with leather, a touch of sous bois, cedar and dried berries. Good structure on the palate, with smooth tannins present. Flighted with an '89 Clos L'Eglise. Both good wines, but my preference was for the Saint-Pierre, which was richer and bolder (in a good way). Admirably, the Saint-Pierre never fell off over the 30-40 minutes it was in my glass.

Nose: Perfumed with cherry blossom and lilac. Also, aromas of red fruit, some earth and some leathery notes, with hints of herbs.
Palate: Red fruit with hints of vanilla, earth, cedar and tobacco. Tannins well integrated.smooth and rounded. Finish was medium. This was a nice blend of fruit and tertiary goodness. Very enjoyable now, but should hold for a few more years.
I was pleased with this wine, and it was squarely in my wheelhouse (although a smidge more fruit would have been even nicer). A solid 92 for my palate, and a very enjoyable Bordeaux!

Luis' group goes to Kenwood without him (again) (The Kenwood): Double decant. Drank a small glass over an hour. Complex, integrated nose with funk, leather and green bell pepper. The palate has smooth tannin and a lingering finish.

Fresh and pure. Nice cigar box on the nose. Plums, old saddle leather, bell pepper and really smooth tannins. In a nice place.

Okay....Luis Rides Again.....Horseless! (Someday Luis, you will need to attend one of your own tastings! (The Kenwood, Minneapolis, MN): Double decanted and then slo-O for 90 mins. This is the older Saint Pierre I have tasted, and I was pleasantly surprised! A very straight-forward St Julien with great fruit and enough tertiary flavors to keep your interest. Loved the fruit on this wine!
