deep lemon yellow with hints of green tinges, lemon peel, hint of green apple, and wet stones, there is also a floral aroma dancing through it.Palate is dry with excellent acidity, long my only critisism would be that it could be a little bit more aromatic, in fact this wine is still young.
1990-themed dinner (The American Club): Served blind after the DP, and oh, this was so classy. Tell-tale notes of petrol pointed to aged Riesling, together with scents of herbs and very delicate (light) notes of tropical fruits. Bone dry on the palate, it had that stony minerality, bright acidity intermixed with notes of apples, a bit of nectarines which all glided across the palate so elegantly and weightlessly, which culminated in a finish not quite as long as the DP, but still very respectable. Great!
Pale gold, nice lustre. Deep citrus and honey fragrance, plump and tending towards tropical fruit. Pure and intense. A faint hint of spice, zesty minerality. Ripe citrus fruits, honey, with a slightly spicy dried herb and mineral edge. Has softened but far more vibrant than 24 years might suggest. Fruit is still to the fore, and not a hint of kerosene, just a little oxidative spice coming through. Not the best bottle I've had (cork was saturated, possibly had some impact) but still a good one.
Bought on release and cellared. Perfect level. Opened with dinner. Rich in colour for a Riesling, smells glorious; meadows, stones, Alsace. Great balance of richness and purity, butter and minerality. Cuts through Jamon Iberico with perfect acidity. Caught between adolescence and maturity the 1990 vintage really suits this wine, albeit intense. A wine to while your life way with.
