Heavy deposits in the bottle neck. Wine Diamonds! ;-p As always, that unmistakable big yeasty Sonoma nose. Amazingly fruity for an eight-year-old wine. I would say this is the perfect drinking window right now!

By the time we got to this one, palate fatigue had set in. But in a setting with 20 participants and three winemakers (plus their partners, some in the business) and a lot of wine, no one detected that this was the discounted ringer in flights with some very high end wines (Pax, Myriad, Quivet). No one thought it was a LaLaLa, either. I'd say very good, but I'd consume them regularly if you have them (this was my last) because the backbone and savory elements are already receding. Not at all sorry I bought it or put it in the tasting.

I'm not giving numbers to these anymore. (See how long that lasts.) But if I did, it would only add to the confusion of the notes on here. I thought this wine was excellent, maybe outstanding. (So, figure that score out.) I suspect lots of folks drank it too early, not too late--how can 6 year old Syrah from a great vineyard and a solid year be over the hill? This grape is made to last. I do suspect that early drinking showed harsh tannins, because they are just settling down. The savory, earthy flavors of this wine, with the black plum are mouth-coating, the acids just enough to be mouth-watering. Maybe some had storage problems. Maybe they failed to set this upright and drank sediment. I know I'm glad I have another, and sorry I didn't buy more. Maybe take a point off for a label that looks like a hang tag for a brand of jeans from a discount store--what does that mesa have to do with wine or Sonoma County?

The wine looks Ruby colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Cherry, and Red Currant.

Nice fruit, structure, nose, varietal character. No vegetal odor. Good fruit focus. Nice tobacco and leather as well.
