| | Tasted by THood on 1/17/2010 & rated 91 points: Smoke and blackberry jam on the nose. Full body with blackberries, dry forest floor and a good bit of dirt/minerality. Nice medium length finish with good structure and understated alcohol. (355 views) |

| | Tasted by fingers on 1/11/2010 & rated 87 points: Very dark purple, 95% saturated. 4hrs open. Nose doesn't give up alot. Blackberry, earth, some brush and pepper. Big body, nice acidic spine, soft but simple tannins. Dark berries and vanilla flavors. A little seductive in profile and with good balance but it's a little hot for my taste. Medium-long finish and there's a little tail of tannic grip, but I don't think there's a long future in store here beyond a couple years (5+10+16+6) = 87 (573 views) |

| | Tasted by winediamondswa on 1/3/2010 & rated 93 points: pop and pour. drank over 5 hours. beautiful nose is bright with blueberry, and darker fruits. mid palate has more bluebery, spice, and maybe some sandalwood but is still slightly bitter on the finish which was medium in length with nice acidity. bitter finish softened thoughout the 5 hrs so it should smooth out as the barrell integrates with the grapes. give it a year. first owen roe wine i've ever liked. | | Tasted by rjswineblog on 12/24/2009 & rated 88 points: this is the Owen Roe that started it all for me. I still remember that first bottle and the impression it left. For the price (I think it was around $15), it was dense and rich and incredibly well balanced. The nose was full of life and every sip took me back to my Northwest roots. A little dramatic you say? Well, wine does that to people and attaching wines to good memories is what it's all about. The 2007 is equally as good. The richness is still there, like I remember. The nose is aromatic, with dark berry fruit, chocolate, spice and smoke that transforms into blueberries, chocolate and coffee in the mouth. The finish was a little lighter than I remember and left me yearning for more, but overall this is still a very nice wine, particularly for the price of under $20. (705 views) |
| | Tasted by esb on 12/20/2009 & rated 89 points: On hour decant. Forward blackberry, smoke, toast and minor cedar from oak. Great balance, rich, dense feel in the mouth with nice acidity on the finish. It's together but could use some time to add polish. More wood presence than I remember from previous vintages but it's not overdone. Overall, excellent with upside. Now or wait. (819 views) |
| | Tasted by Triplet on 11/27/2009 & rated 90 points: This wine opens with a great red berry fruit nose. Very soft moutfeel, a little smokey and a clean medium long finish. Great QPR for about $23! (1082 views) |
| | Tasted by RoundersRob on 11/25/2009 & rated 88 points: Dark purple color with a hint of pepper on the nose. On the palate this wine has a fantastic smooth texture with deep plum and blackberry fruit mixed with vanilla on the finish. For $24, this was a really great value. (1150 views) |
| | Tasted by manonthemoon on 11/18/2009 & rated 90 points: Nose of blackberry brambles, leather, cedar, and spice. Palate of black fruit, cocoa powder, olive, white pepper, good structure. Good qpr. 90 (1274 views) |

| | Tasted by mdstenner on 11/1/2009 & rated 91 points: Absolute quality. There is plenty of fruit, but the minerality, earthiness, complexity and richness was stunning. This is a wine for people that get wine. It's not a show-stopper, it's anything but, but I'm still thinking about it today...because the layers of flavor are haunting. (1449 views) |

| | Tasted by Triplet on 10/13/2009 & rated 91 points: This wine had a very full ripe fruit nose. Nice soft mouthfeel and alot of flavor across the palate with a very nice finish. Tasted against the 05 and 06. Similar to the 05 but had a more ripe flavor profile and a little softer. This will evolve nicely over time. Will buy more! (1597 views) |

| | Tasted by Colia on 9/17/2009 & rated 90 points: Oddly enough, doesn't go with the lamb...it doesn't play nice with others. Loads of smoky white pepper, blackberries, blueberries, tar, and cedar. (1674 views) |
| | Tasted by Richard Jennings on 9/16/2009 & rated 88 points: Oregon & Washington Tasting (K&L Wines, Redwood City, California): Opaque very dark black violet color; deep plum, berry and toast nose; tight, ripe plum, black fruit, vanilla and toasty oak palate; medium-plus finish 88+ pts. | | Tasted by kablerc on 9/15/2009 & rated 87 points: Smoke, leather and dark fruit on the nose. Nice berry notes but finishes more spicey and leathery/smokey than I prefer. Lingering finish of 30 seconds. This is a good bottle of wine, but not my preference - will choose vegetable over spice any day. Well made, but overly spicey and astringent for me. Seems a bit hot. | | Tasted by RPerro on 9/12/2009 & rated 92 points: Oregon Wine Country Tasting (Willamette Valley, OR): Probably my wine of the tasting. Everything just works with this wine. Blackberry, pepper, some blueberry, smoke, all wrapped up with nice tannins and acidity. Drinking well now. (1717 views) |
| | Tasted by thebonnydooner on 9/12/2009 & rated 92 points: Lovely wine - this bested a Gorman Pixie from last night easily - this is deep and plush with nice fruit, but with a really nice complexity - smoke, fig and soy notes over blackberry and currant fruit. Palate is similar, deep, ripe fruit, dry with fine tannins and firm currant acidity but with nice complexity of smoke, fig and Hoisin sauce to balanced the currant and berry fruit.
I tasted through the Betz Syrah line-up at their release party - this is not quite in the same league but close (and for way less cash). Need to buy more of this. (1731 views) |
