Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.7 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 23 notes)

Tasted by manonthemoon on 11/18/2009 & rated 90 points: Nose of blackberry brambles, leather, cedar, and spice. Palate of black fruit, cocoa powder, olive, white pepper, good structure. Good qpr. 90 (186 views)
Tasted by mdstenner on 11/1/2009 & rated 91 points: Absolute quality. There is plenty of fruit, but the minerality, earthiness, complexity and richness was stunning. This is a wine for people that get wine. It's not a show-stopper, it's anything but, but I'm still thinking about it today...because the layers of flavor are haunting. (498 views)

Tasted by Triplet on 10/13/2009 & rated 91 points: This wine had a very full ripe fruit nose. Nice soft mouthfeel and alot of flavor across the palate with a very nice finish. Tasted against the 05 and 06. Similar to the 05 but had a more ripe flavor profile and a little softer. This will evolve nicely over time. Will buy more! (644 views)

Tasted by spotaha on 9/19/2009 & rated 89 points: (558 views)
Tasted by Colia on 9/17/2009 & rated 90 points: Oddly enough, doesn't go with the lamb...it doesn't play nice with others. Loads of smoky white pepper, blackberries, blueberries, tar, and cedar. (728 views)
Tasted by Richard Jennings on 9/16/2009 & rated 88 points: Oregon & Washington Tasting (K&L Wines, Redwood City, California): Opaque very dark black violet color; deep plum, berry and toast nose; tight, ripe plum, black fruit, vanilla and toasty oak palate; medium-plus finish 88+ pts. (854 views)
Tasted by kablerc on 9/15/2009 & rated 87 points: Smoke, leather and dark fruit on the nose. Nice berry notes but finishes more spicey and leathery/smokey than I prefer. Lingering finish of 30 seconds. This is a good bottle of wine, but not my preference - will choose vegetable over spice any day. Well made, but overly spicey and astringent for me. Seems a bit hot.  Tasted by RPerro on 9/12/2009 & rated 92 points: Oregon Wine Country Tasting (Willamette Valley, OR): Probably my wine of the tasting. Everything just works with this wine. Blackberry, pepper, some blueberry, smoke, all wrapped up with nice tannins and acidity. Drinking well now. (784 views)
Tasted by thebonnydooner on 9/12/2009 & rated 92 points: Lovely wine - this bested a Gorman Pixie from last night easily - this is deep and plush with nice fruit, but with a really nice complexity - smoke, fig and soy notes over blackberry and currant fruit. Palate is similar, deep, ripe fruit, dry with fine tannins and firm currant acidity but with nice complexity of smoke, fig and Hoisin sauce to balanced the currant and berry fruit.

I tasted through the Betz Syrah line-up at their release party - this is not quite in the same league but close (and for way less cash). Need to buy more of this. (781 views)
Tasted by kevinwhite on 8/9/2009 & rated 91 points: Very savory wine. Let this one open up for about an hour before drinking and it will show you blackberry, hints of red fruit (strawberry and raspberry), white pepper and cedar. Integrated tannins give this a very smooth, dense mouth feel followed by a long finish. (912 views)
Tasted by RPerro on 7/2/2009 & rated 92 points: Excellent peppery blackberry fruit. Nicely integrated and lush, with a hint of sweetness on the finish. (1057 views)
Tasted by skieser on 6/30/2009 & rated 88 points: Fruity but not over the top. Easy drinking and tasty with smoke, leather, blueberry and a hint of pepper. Would appreciate a bit more complexity for the price. (1070 views)
Tasted by cst778 on 6/26/2009 & rated 90 points: Had very nice weight and color - something in between a Rhone and California wine. It was much more old than new world: smoky, meaty, earthy - and delicious! Was also very food friendly.

At SLW on a Thursday night (1096 views)

big, full flavors of bacon fat, dark ripe fruit, lavender, and bitter bakers chocolate.
good structure. full, soft mouthfeel. medium- long finish. (1096 views)

Tasted by chimpanzee29 on 5/17/2009 & rated 87 points: Blackberry cobbler. Nice mouthfeel. Not much going for it besides this one-dimensional fruit aspect. Decent buy at $24 (1273 views)

Tasted by ihavezinned on 4/4/2009 & rated 91 points: popped and poured. tight nose: light cherry with vanilla, mocha, coffee, bacon fat & raisin with all the flavors to follow. very soft in the mouth and delicious! structured. medium finish. very nice @ $20. (1391 views)
