  • Tasted at Blackbird today, thank you Matt for the tasting, blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon, super ripe fruit on the nose, black cherry, licorice, and black currants, more of the same on the palate, medium/big body, very tasty, big, rich fruit, lovely tasting, at peak and will last another 10 years although I suggest you drink it over the next 3 years, flavorful, long finish. Different winemaker.

  • - Violet color. It's somewhat balanced with a full body. Linear texture with a medium finish - Maybe in a weird place, this wine has shown better in the past. Spicy plum, violets, currants, mocha and licorice. Just seemed a bit off and out of balance.

  • This one did not easily give it up. At first I thought this was a goner, and hour later it's agreed to show. On Day 2 it was even better (half recorked, no gas in the desire overnight) even better showing superb balance and elegance, with depth and length.

    Day 1
Nose: Red currants, spice and leather, some tobacco and anise, some pepper notes too. Great nose.

Palate: At first the flavors were flat and the wine seemed over the hill and done. With the nose this wine had I knew there had to be something this palate had to offer. After an hour the wine's palate started to shed it's shy start with black and red fruit, and some earth.

    Day 2

Color: a red velvety red core, not opaque by any means, rose edges.

Nose: The red currants still dominate, but with more chocolate integrated with cherry, tobacco and traces of the anise. The edginess from the spice is gone, so is the green pepper making this more elegant and to me more beautiful.

Palate: The fruit is more elegant, but more persistent and deeper than yesterday. Cherry, currants, some mocha and licorice, however the real star here is the finish, long and pure and defined but ultra silky tannins, superb!

I still can't believe how much this is better on day 2, it defied all expectations!
