2012 Bordeaux After One Decade (Los Olivos, CA): Another stellar showing for this underrated Lur Saluces family bottling, with cool, clean notes of orange peel, coconut, pear and marzipan. I longed for just a touch more acidity, but that's more of a wish than a complaint as this was flat-out stunning.

A very strong performance, true to the vintage, with notes of orange peel, coconut, pear and marzipan. Not youthful as such, nor is there any rush here.

Brilliant showing from a "leaker" with mid shoulder fill. Deep orange, ripe, fruity, but somewhat reticent nose with a touch of copper (metallic). Opening with air, on the palate full, rich, fully filled out mature Sauternes with a similar profile to my previous note...orange marmalade, pear, and this had a touch of almonds, which is always nice. Long finish with great extract. Improved over 20-25 minutes...I suspect it is a touch better the next day if properly stored. A very pleasant surprise.

All-sauternes dinner (Jardiniere, SF): Unfortunately, very lightly corked on the nose. Still a very drinkable wine showing great sweetness and balance, but the fruit was subtle and the wine overall came off as simple.

Like the Yquem, only a bit richer. This does not have Yquem's almondy VA, but it has just about everything else. Deep orange in color with maybe a touch of light amber, the nose explodes from the glass with citrus marmalade, tangerines, ripe pears, hints of eau de vie, with full, ripe flavors showing botrytis complexity. A very rich wine at this juncture, but also complete all the way through the extremely long finish. I'd put this in the class of Yquem 89 or other ripe vintages.
