I found myself in Garnet, buying Highland Park for my girlfriend's father, and I recalled Brooklynguy's praise for this wine earlier today. At $25, why not? Brooklynguy's description is spot on - elegant, mature, silky - but to me, this wine was prematurely advanced at only eight years old, with a dryness around the edges, dilute cranberry tea notes, and to my palate, a lack of underlying richness. Enjoyable, but not compelling enough to seek out to buy again, nor age further as it's at its peak will not likely improve much. At about five hours of air, however, the wine suddenly brightened, gaining a bit more depth and giving off compexities of tomato skin and some sois bois amidst brown sugar water, and more of the richness that was needed earlier.

mature volnay, silky soft, some gentle spices, lovely cooked cherry fruit with some orange peel character. nice acidity, very well balanced. this is in its prime drinking window.

200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Light, elegant, fragrant, a bit too light for a higher score.
