1998 was a light vintage for Cali Zin in general, more acidic and less ripe - perhaps more age worthy...BAM What a pretty and delicious wine!
Medium garnet in color, no bricking. Nose of mixed berries, baking spices and leather. Fresh on the palate with bright acidity. Perfect balance with mixed berries (red raspberries and cherries) and spices surrounding an elegantly structured wine - as elegant a Zin as you will ever find. Artistry in a glass. Well done!
Good color, nice nose with berries and some spice. Interesting palate - some of the typical Zin components like a berry assortment, but also some bigger, "thicker" flavors that I couldn't pinpoint. Very concentrated on the palate - held up well against Mexican food and spices. There was a bit of astringency, but it wasn't really off-putting, rather it showed this to be the big wine that it is. Much better than the last bottle we had 18 months ago.
