Community Tasting Notes (7) Avg Score: 87.9 points

  • -- popped and poured --
    -- tasted non-blind over a couple days --
    -- 7/9 Mourvedre, 1/9 Grenache, 1/9 Syrah --

NOSE: high-toned; red fruits --- red currant, strawberry; strawberry Twizzlers; some noticeable oak, but it's not front and center; not complex.

BODY: superfine particulate matter present; ruby-garnet color of medium to medium-deep depth; medium-full to full bodied.

TASTE: soft & lush; moderate to moderate+ oak; red fruits; hint of smokiness (probably the oak); not funky; medium+ acidity; alc. not noticeable (13.5%); doesn't really taste aged; overall, this is a very good wine, but it's not really very distinctive, and it is made in a style (soft/lush) that I don't prefer. Drink Now and over the next couple of years.

  • More mature than my previous bottle. Showed a pretty floral tone that I can only hope will continue to develop in this wine.

    -- tasted non-blind over 2 Days –

NOSE: high-pitched and slightly sweet floral/red fruit combo; pepper and oak in the background; expressive; smells like a winery at crush; watermelon/red Kool-aid combo. Day 2: NOSE has closed down a bit; new note of strawberry soda. Better nose on Day 1 than Day 2.

BODY: unusual amount of sediment in the neck and on bottom of cork; violet color of medium-deep to deep depth; some particulate matter suspended in the wine; medium-full to full bodied.

TASTE: expressive flavors: big, but not overblown; very perfumy; a tad smoky; slightly alcoholic (surprising, given the 13.5% alc.); soft tannins; decent acidity; some sweet oak on the finish (approx. 40 sec.); finish decrescendos from intense to light rather quickly; loosely knit. Day 2: same as Day 1, but now a bit more restrained and lighter weight on the palate (medium bodied). Better taste on Day 2 than Day 1. This wine’s Day 2 performance has me totally confused as to how this would age – on Day 1, I thought for sure this wasn’t built for aging at all; Day 2 makes me wonder if maybe it can improve with some short-term cellaring.

  • Bustawinos V6 (Jorge Jr's apartment): Nose of herbs, mint, "medicinal marijuana - not the street stuff", and some hints of cocoa, dark fruit, and dry leaves. Very elegant wine. "Oaky with blueberry gushers". Very well made wine that would benefit from some time. Very soft on the palate, but coating. Very good bottle of wine. Gaby Jr's.
