  NOSE: red fruited --- spiced cherry, with notes of eucalyptus and smoked pork; at times, it seems a bit charred/poopy; not as “pure” smelling as the 2008.
  
  BODY: clear; garnet color of medium-light to medium depth; medium-light to medium bodied.
  
  TASTE: cool black cherry and red currant fruit flavors, backed by hints of dried herbs and char (oak?); clean; 13.5% alc. not noticeable; good acidity, but not shrill; tannins are medium-fine and are moderately drying; not a waif, but not brutish either --- somewhere in-between; well-balanced; tasty now, but a bit rough around the edges; I’d like more concentration of fruit; will give benefit of the doubt and say this just needs more time to come together some; ’08 vintage of this bottling is better.

  Weekend at Zuli's; 2/16/2012-2/19/2012 (St. Catharines, Ontario): Decanted 3 hours, consumed over the next 4 hours. Pale ruby color, very young looking, 13.5% abv. Bright red fruits on the nose, strawberry and raspberry, with a bit of spice and forest floor notes. The medium-light bodied mouthfeel gives way to tart strawberries and a faint herbal heat, like a menthol quality. The finish is clean and medium-short, and is very pleasant. Probably consumed a bit too early, even with substantial decant, this wine will only improve in the next few years.

  Tasting at Scott Paul and Tyrus Evan (Carlton, OR): Moderate purple-red, perhaps a shade darker than either the Charmes or Bel Air. Stunning nose of ripe red fruit, damp earth, smoke and some wood. Equally good on the palate with loads of ripe fruit off-set by moderate tannin. Shockingly long finish. Luanne commented that this wine was 'mature' whereas the Bel Air was 'rambunctous'.

  Had next to the MSD Village
  Aromatically has a more charred quality. A bit of elegance but aromatically this is more stinky and earth focused. Really enjoying the purple fruits mixed with flowers. Darker and more brutish than the Village but still elegant and fairly easy drinking. The acids are more pronounced. A lot going on with this wine but it needs a few years of sleep.
