Community Tasting Notes (2) Avg Score: 88.5 points

  • Annual BYO Pre-Dinner (mostly mature Bordeauxs): This Pape Clement was slightly past it’s peak. It showed nicely layered and had good power and tension but at the same time some not so enjoyable age notes. 88/89 pts.

TN: Fully aged Bordeaux nose with mushrooms, slightly bitter herbs, some fresher mint notes, malty notes. A bit over the hill. On the palate the same picture, notes of mushrooms (not the clean, good ones) overpowering the underlying fruit, cola and malty notes. Tannin structure still intact, a bit high acidity. Lots of power, not perfectly harmonious, a bit rustic. Overall ok-ish but with some faulty notes that taint the experience.

  • Very mature nose with dark cherry fruit and some sweeter accents. A bit of malt, cola aromas and a fresh herbal layer that adds freshness. The palate is a step-up with nice fruit and deep earthy notes, round and incredibly smooth with a long finish. A bit too mature and clearly past its prime, but drinks reasonably well nonetheless.
