Very spicy nose with shoe polish, clove, cinnamon and tons of christmas spices and salty fishes. Tastes a bit like grand marnier with orange peel and loads of alcohol. Also very tannic. Does not appear integrated at this stage and is difficult to evaluate... It suggests he’s actually aware of an alternative perspective. The ’05 Pure was the most upsettingly pointless wine I’ve ever drunk with a meal. The taster I most respect dismisses Barroche at mention as “spoofy tat”. He and I nonetheless sampled the ’07 Pure as it was available at a recent tasting which was otherwise mostly showcasing ‘Natural’ wines. Nose had coarse shots of red apple juice vinegar / acidity. Palate, a covering of gentle burnt sugar over soft plums. Flavours artificially sweet and simple; character hot and devoid of the textural dimension. It’s so sad to think how Parker is encouraging producers to take this stylistic and varietal direction. These are, profoundly and utterly, wines of the sweet shop, not of terroir. Dominant VA on the nose, some ethyl acetate, quite ripe, sweet, over the top, lacking any CdP character. Doesn't have that 2003 roasted character, just far too ripe. A mouth full of primary fruits. This is powerful, youthful and elegant at the same time. Full bodied and loaded with fruits. This will be a great wine! With a huge nose of ripe black and red cherries, "Belgian sirop de Liège", licorice.... Very very very long in the mounth, huge ripe black and red fruit, very refined and ripe tannins, good refreshing acidity... (bottle from barrel sample) (2724 views) |
