Chris’s 1st Growth Series — Haut Brion (La Trompette, London): Bright, vibrant full garnet. Attractive nose, warm terracotta and a whiff of tobacco. Cool and fresh yet gentle and harmonious with some energy. Unsurprisingly a little dry and faded on the finish. ***

From 375ml: This is very fresh! Vibrant acidity, fruit is still elegant and pretty. Wasn’t sure what to expect with this given the age, bottle format, and vintage… but this was lovely!

The 1967 Chateau Haut-Brion was showing no evidence of its age with a beautiful deep red core, on the nose the wine is showing some faded fruit, but a more tertiary profile. The palate clean and layered with complexity, the wine evolved so rapidly in the glass while the fine tannin and acidity held it together. There is a lot of finesse here, and it's no surprise this wine took the number one spot at our 1960s Bordeaux tasting.

Bottle was in amazing shape. Deep colour with some bricking at the rim. Deep fruit with black and purple profile. Remarkable condition and delicious.
