My heart fell when the cork disintegrated as I opened it, but it turned out that the wine hadn't suffered. I had to decant to filter out the cork bits, and the aeration was the right thing to do for this wine. It turned out to be a very nice cab. Coats the mouth with layers of husky flavor. Smooth tannins on the finish. Requires accompaniment like the beefy rib roast and Umbrian truffle pasta we enjoyed with it.

Powerful aromas of cassis, melted black licorice and vanilla. Slightly jammy on the nose. black pepper, tobacco and coffee reinforce. The palate is full blown with cassis flavors, raspberry, cherry and licorice. concentrated and fruity, a little to much so.

Upon opening there is a lot of chocolate in the nose; this later gave way to blackberries, mulberries and a hint of mint. Color is quite dark. First taste shows a bit of spiciness; at midpalate it delivers an abundance of dark fruit. Tannins still a bit astringent, but soften after an hour or two. Wine displays admirable depth and balance, and is not overly oaky. Good finish. I believe this may actually improve over the next year or two; has some staying power. Taken altogether, this is a substantial and and impressive wine, and one that carries a fairly modest price tag. Highly recommend.

Powerful spicy blackcurrant and cedarwood nose. Real menthol on the palate alongside blackcurrant, spice and dark cherry. Really, really powerful, decent structure. Medium/long finish. Not elegant (it rather overshadowed simple lamb chops with a red wine sauce), but a real bruiser and a good comfort wine. With the tannins and some acidity remaining I think this has the wherewithal to go a few more years yet.
