Quite restrained but beautiful mature burgundy nose: forest floor, earth, minerals, deep black fruit lurking behind. Oak present but in an attractive way. Complex and beguiling. Mid-weight palate dominated by sweet black fruit and earth flavours. Lovely energy. The wine gives an impression of gentleness but the stuffing is all there. This is proper iron hand in the velvet glove stuff. On the finish the tannins assert themselves, but there is super persistence, ending on an earth note befitting the vineyard. Superb.

This bottle is very well opened. Purple, violet, earth, warm, high tanning, m- tanning. It’s mouth fairing but not very well concentrated. Juicy but lack backbone. This is more like a mugnier instead of a bonnes mares.

Fourteenth Annual White Truffle Dinner (Chez Weber - Chicago IL): Lots of red berry and cherry with good weight and very good length and textural charm. Not a powerhouse, but a charming Bonnes Mares. Very similar stylistically to the Mugnier 2011 Bonnes Mares I tasted last night.

Wine Dinner Extravaganza (Mirabelle - Washington, DC): In top 2007 Bonnes Mares horizontal. Red cherry and berry throughout, in a slighter and elegant style. Charming. Moderate weight and length. Very good now, and this should continue to drink well and evolve for the next 10-15+ years.

2007 bonnes mares is a cuvée that can have Bret. Now no. BM always has higher PH. 2007 lower acid than 2008.
