  • shared with pat at selkirk manor to celebrate surviving another week during the pandemic. i continue to drink down the cellar with a focus on bottles with expired drink by dates. CT longevity estimate shorter than professional review by galloni suggesting 2021. i couldn't resist seeing what was going on. the wine was in a very good place. dark color. robust nose and palate. lots of dark fruits. comlex. firm grip. satisfying finish. fully mature now and very enjoyable. no risk of deterioration with another year of bottle age. drink or hold.

  • Mieux que mes autres j'ai trouvé.
Belle souplesse et finesse avec un brau fruit précis, cerise et mures,
avec du poivre et de l'anis. Les tanins sont assez fins et
polis avec une finale bien longue et suave.
    Excellent.

  • At first animal notes and funkiness on the nose but with time in the glass the scent clears, sour black berries, elegant but powerful, no sweet mouthfeel which was predominant in the previous bottle, strong tannins but not overpowering as with younger Borgos, very good overall structure which rare at this price point.

  • The wine has taken on a brown hue that accompanies deep purple. Dark raspberry, currant and nutty overtones. Tannins are still very prominent and mellow out with a bit of decanting.
Very slight tartness on the finish that is otherwise smooth and fruity.
Aging nicely, though coming down from its peak.

  • A blend of Sangiovese (70%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (30%). 14,5% alcohol.

Dark, almost fully opaque black cherry color with a hint of developed figgy color towards the rim. The nose feels sweet-toned and quite tertiary with aromas of raisiny dark fruits, some pruney character, a little bit of overripe blackcurrant, light black cherry tones and an animal hint of leathery funk. The wine is dense, concentrated and full-bodied on the palate with somewhat developed flavors of wizened dark fruits, some raisiny tones, a little bit of ripe blackcurrant, light savory woody tones, a hint of sour cherry bitterness and a touch of pruney sweetness. Despite its relatively developed overall character the wine feels still very lively and quite muscular with its moderately high acidity and firm, medium-plus tannins. The finish is ripe, long and moderately grippy with somewhat pruney sweetness and bold flavors of peppery spice, some ripe blackcurrant, a little bit of sour cherry bitterness, light raisiny tones, woody hints of pencil shavings anda touch of leather.

This vintage of Cabreo Il Borgo felt surprisingly evolved: after all, this wine is quite well-known for its longevity and 2006 was an exceptional year in Tuscany. Considering this, the wine felt quite mature with its sweet-toned, tertiary flavors. All in all, the wine was standing solidly at its plateau of maturity; I can imagine it will keep for many years more, but unless this was a prematurely developed bottle, I doubt the wine will evolve much from here. Nevertheless, an impressive and attractive example of Super-Tuscan wine.
