Really opened up after about an hour in the decanter. Black currant, cherry pie, strawberry jam and a hint of graphite all come alive in the glass. The acidity is racy and the tannins are still present. This wine is delicious and i can’t believe it is 22 years old.

Light to medium red Colored with plenty of sediment. Beautiful balance, density and flavor. Length is very long. Medium plus tannin still (for a 19 yr old), but well integrated with the serious fruit density all wrapped in a lively energetic frame. NO heaviness! The Sierra foothills can produce a wine every bit as good as the best from Napa or Bordeaux. Try this! Drinking great now but should be great in the next ten years. Really elegant and mineral day two, tannins have receded, no hint of oxidization, immortal wine!

Drinking very nicely right now, this 17 year old cab is just entering the mid point of its drinking window. Made in a style that requires long aging, it was smooth, dark, with notes of spice, earth and plum on the nose. On the palate it was almost creamy with a nice round mouth feel, balanced, and a lengthy finish. I would have scored it higher but the mid palate was weak when all was said and done. Still the bottle was enjoyed by all. I have one more and will open it in another 5 years or so.

Not as powerfully expressive as the 1999 and much more fiercely structured - this requires major decanting time, and the best sip was the last, maybe three hours after opening. The tannins are screechy with big-time traction and the acidity seems to have palpable suction to it; the structural effect is almost like a Loire cabernet franc, but the fruit is rich and syrupy and laced with the iron-like minerality that distinguishes the Renaissance vineyard. The fruit mellows out and turns more claret-like as it sits and airs but it remains rich stuff with an up-front sweetness that gives the fruit the polish it needs to balance out that structure.
