  • Popped and poured to have with rump cap and veg...Aromas of earth, plums, mushroom, leather, backed by a little soy and Asian five spice. With air and time it starts to show a little cedar and sweet spice as well as a little blackcurrant and pyrazine. In the mouth it's juicy with slightly sour plums, leather, coarse sandpaper tannins that rasp the tongue and a touch of almost salinity that gives the plummy fruit an umeboshi quality. I rather like it.

  • Medium-darn garnet-ruby. No/minimal trace of oranging. Nose filled with oak and creosote with a dash of black currant thrown in. Medium-full bodied and still quite dense and tannic. More charred wood/creosote and black currant on the palate with just a hint of mint. This is still in fine drinking condition, but doesn't show a lot of complexity or interest. 90

  • Last of a case of 12. Still quite youthful appearance with a medium/deep ruby/garnet core and a narrow pale garnet rim. Appealing, sweet plummy nose with notes of sweet tea and earth. Medium bodied with sweet plummy fruit, integrated fine tannins, notes of vanilla and earth, fresh acidity on a good length finish. Attractive if not overly complex. Drink now.

  • Fuller colour than the GL, more obviously sweet-fruited with creamy vanilla dominating the nose initially. Mulberry and slightly plummy flavours develop. Plush and rounded in the mouth, modern and well made, lacks the charm and complexity of the GL but none-the-less this is very decent and good for the money. Very drinkable. ***1/2

  • Medium/deep ruby, medium pale ruby rim. Sweet, spicy nose with plum and black cherry fruit, vanilla notes. Medium + bodied on the palate, sweet plum and black cherry fruit, spicy oak and vanilla, even a hint of chocolate, not massively deep on the mid-palate bit broadens nicely on a good length finish, framed by attractive fresh acidity. There are some firm, slightly tacky unresolved tannins and this isn't overly complex or profound, but still a very attractively flavoured drink for now and the next 2-3 years.
