Expectations were pretty low given the age of this wine. We opened on Xmas day. The tawny color of age was there, but the nose belied the color. The bouquet began with hints of violet and soft undertones of lavender, almost herbal, then the bold raisin and prune came through. The taste was fresh, though, like a Bordeaux 1/2 it's age. What a surprise and pleasure.
At home with K at dinner (tomato-garlic risotto). Still darkly colored; ruby with lighter rim. Lots of fruit in the nose with an unfortunate wet cardboard component. Firm fruit in the mouth. Solid, sturdy red without much finesse or complexity. Still tannic. 5-9-15-6: 85/100. Later, drying out. 5-9-12-5: 81/100.
