Consistent with the bottles we had in South Africa; this from an unusual 500ml bottle; this wine has serious depth and a long finish- full bodied; boysenberry, black berry, cloves, pepper, tar, graphite... Sweet, mouth watering tannins- wow!
Hard to score this fairly, I enjoyed this quite a bit, but it is a dark, brooding and restrained Euro style, which was not appreciated by the "crowd" tonight. 90 and could be more. Decanted for 90 minutes.
Very dark purple-bluish. Initially closed, opened up gradually to reveal licorice, dark plums, vanilla and spices. Unusually clean nose for a South African red. Full-bodied with rich but fine-grained tanins, very rich fruit and high acidity. Long finish. Tight and compact, will benefit from 5 more years of cellaring. This wine has a bright future.
