  • Just do think I am a Merlot fan. Decent wine, smooth but too uneventful.

  • We have a wine club and this month's theme is merlot. In general, this event changes my mind about merlot (100%, not blend), not subtle and mild wine.

OK, back to stag's leap 2006. It displayed quite dark ruby color with puple edge. Nose is good and pleasant with plum, vanilla and earthy characters. Body is well structured, especially after one or two hours breath. it shows mocha, black fruits with surprising strong tannins, good dry finish and length.

The other good merlot is from 2010 Duckhorn (Napa). Color is less intense, but nose is very fruity. body is cherry focused with pencil in the middle stage and then good level of tannins although not as strong. I have to say I do have a higher expectation from Duckhorn. I gave it 90+.

The 2001 Chateau Bourgneaf (Pomerol) is an interesting one with dark ruby color, very nice nose but typical bordeaux. Good acidity level, and cherry with good tannins. Somehow this wine didn't envolve better with more breath time. I gave it a 90-

The last bottle (#8) was 2000 Chateau Grand Mayne. I have several bottles of this with dfferent vintages. Again a typical bordeaux nose. Nice body structure with cherris, plum and earth notes. Good tannins with length finish. I gave it 90+.

  • Delicious Cali Merlot and very well structured (often a complaint), interesting in contract to the Chateau Montelena Cab from the same vintage - Dark, full bodied with a nose of Plum, blackfruit, cedar, mocha and vanilla, well structured and balanced, velvety smooth on the palate with excellent length, very tasty! (91 Points).

  • Very dissatisfied with this one. Might have been a storing problem. Spent 30 dollars and it didn't live up to the brand's reputation.

  • Deep ruby. Smooth, mid-bodied, with a dusty, earthy quality. Plums, blackberries, cherries, mocha, and vanilla notes are framed by juicy acidity, a linear spine, and excellent length. There's a hint of spice box on the espresso finish. Hits all the right Merlot notes.
