  Very high fill level, perfect provenance. This is a wonderful wine with a good tension and beautiful aromatics. It is not as precise, focused and has not the same depth and sweetness as the 1964, I’ve had a few months ago but it still a magical creature I would drink every day. 94 to 95 points.
  
  TN: On the nose and palate the wines is layered and expressive with fully tertiary notes at the centre with liquid tobacco, leather and wet earth. Additional notes of coffee and beautiful dark cassis and blackberry fruit sweetness (but should be more intense to be perfectly harmonious). Impeccable structure with melted tannins, a very good acidity and tension. A nice creamy structure without being heavy. Medium+ length and savory finish.
  
  Decanting: Not decanted, followed over a few hours. Good from the go but got clearly better with some air.

  Extraordinarily well preserved 54 year old Rioja. Retained a lovely ruby red color with a little browning at the edge in recognition of its age. A most pleasing intermingling of sweet fruit, secondary and tertiary flavors and sufficient acidity to keep things interesting. Decanted about 3 hours before it was drunk and actually improved in the glass. A lovely surprise and wine drinking experience. Arriba CUNE and older Riojas. Quite a revelation.

  Amali BYO Dinner (Amali Restaurant - NY, NY): Can I just say WOW!! This was a total head turner for me - my first time ever having a really aged Rioja and it was simply stunning. Intoxicating nose of red plump cherries and well oiled leather - no mustiness at all. The mouthfeel was plush and velvety - the taste was dark bing cherry, spices and some nice earthy notes. All smoothly rounded into a perfect mouthfeel - just terrific!!
