  • Interesting wine. Light ruby color with a brick rim. The nose is terrific, if unusual. Black cherry, wood spice and eucalyptus/glue. Very complex with many burgundy elements - yet not classically burgundy to me. A 95 point nose. The palate is a bit all over the place. Initially very unsettled and disjointed. It comes together after 90 minutes yet remains rugged with some drying tannin at the center of the mature fruit. A bit of a brute. Maybe time is needed but I’m not sure. Very good wine but make sure to serve with full flavored food - worked nicely this evening with porcini risotto and duck confit. (91?)

  • I served this in my wine course. Nose of dark cherry, barnyard and a good bit of eucalyptus, which seems out of place, but adds an interesting component. Silky elegant mouthfeel. Earthy finish.

  • Whoa, this is still coiled up tight despite decanting. The nose gives up some spice and dark fruit, but this is tannic and austere on the palate. Some ripe plum and black berry notes on the palate emerge with time, but this is out of balance and a just backward and dumb today. Certainly Vosne in character, but this needs some serious sleep. Tasted over three days. I'd give this another 3-5 years before again tasting.

  • It's been about a year since I last tasted the Bocquenet Ech, and it certainly has evolved nicely since that time. Decanted three hours, than tasted over the next 3-4 hours. The nose is open now, with notes of ripe plum, violets, and spice. The palate, while still somewhat tight, now reveals sweet dark fruit and some lignified stems with a cutting mineral edge to it. This is still quite tannic and primary and will likely peak in 5-10 years and will likely be truly approachable in 1-3 years. This is civilized, classy juice that should make old bones.

  • No surprise that even after 8 hours of air, still tight. A baby but still nice Ech. Nice perfume and spice nose. Dark, brooding, black fruits. A lot of tannins. Vosne in character. Fun to drink with Thanksgiving. This needs 3-5 more years in the cellar.

(Bocquenet Daniel Echézeaux) Medium-plus colour. High-toned and faintly medicinal aromas. In the mouth it’s soft and concentrated with an excellent undertow of structure. Super dimension in the mid-palate - it will need plenty of cellar time for the dark oak to fade with the tannin, but it’s very good.
