Community Tasting Notes (3) Median Score: 87 points

  • I am going to give this wine 87 points based on two tasting notes I have. One, while quite drunk, was 90 points and the other, drinking a whole bottle at home with the mrs. was 85. I am surprised I found this so amazing after day out tasting for the 90 point score. It does have nice body and balance, possibly what I was after when I scored it 90. Opening it at home though I found this much lighter in flavor and acidity then I expected. Being an 07 the acidity has diminished (but is still there, just light), and tropical and citrus flavors are present but only lightly. Low intensity throughout. Nice finish though, drinking this on it's own is the way to go as I think it would get lost easily with food. I am interested to see what this producer's 08 is like, as I like this producer's wines and this showed that he is capable of making a good Gris. EDIT: Reading my old note, the thing I was most impressed with was the body and feel of the wine considering it was 100% steel fermented, it reminded me of something that had seen some oak.

  • Weekend Before Thanksgiving in the Willamette Valley, Oregon (Oregon): Pears and honey suckle appear on the nose along with some nice acidity. The nose delivers full on, including some very nice acidity and a mouth feel that reminds me of the skin of a pear.

  • Yamhill-Carlton District AVA tasting at The Portland Armory: Clean cantelope on the nose, but not much else. Mid-palate is completely hollow... amazing... the more sips I take to try and find something the more nothingness I get. Very light finish. There is nothing distinguishable about this... why drink wine at all? Nothing offensive about it, but it tastes like a cold glass of water.
