  • Killer nose of Hoisin and soy, dried flowers, Chinese 5 spice and intense cherry fruit. It is a rich, powerful and thick wine, but not heavy in the slightest. Exotic flavours envelop the palate, and it finishes with mineral cut and fabulous length. Brilliant.

  • Out of this world aromatics. Dried floral, sous bois, highly complex. Enough sweetness on the palate to charm. If I were to nitpick, the evolution more than I expected. (722/2101)

  • Gorgeous aromatics, lush and long. This is considerably riper than the 01 RSV tasted a couple of weeks ago, and comes across as a lot more youthful. With air, there is a fine tea note on the finish that is quite exceptional. This is a 30 year wine easily, I would save this for the future and drink 01 in the near term if given such a fantastic choice.

The 02 RSV and 09 Corton-Renardes were like yin and yang. The RSV an intellectual wine where “you have to come to it” versus the Renardes which just comes out and plants a big kiss on you.

  • Explosive stem and floral aromatics. Incredibly lifted and complex. Red fruits presence across note and palate. A spectacular wine with long runway of growth. Clearly eclipsed the 02 DRC RSV in this exercise. #1108

  • 1108/2101. Followed this wine for an afternoon. Classic Leroy nose, flamboyant but restrained as it is very very young. Pure red fruit, sweet Vosne spice, some minerality, amazing balance. Vintage acid is very forward; weight still needs time to catch up. Somewhat less showy than the DRC by its side; this should be left in cellar for another decade. 96+
