  • My last bottle, and thankfully it was as superb as the first bottle. The flavours still dark with cured meats and truffle, and this time I was able to discern black raspberry and pomegranate on the palate. The tannins were slightly grainy and grippy, but not off-putting. Beautiful.

  • Twelve months since first tasting, and the wine is still holding up. There is a hint of portyness creeping in, but that amazingly complex savoury mid-palate is shining strongly and is still nothing short of stunning. Again the key signatures are earth, graphite and dark roasted meats. Interestingly the tannins in this bottle are slightly more aggressive, but not annoyingly so. Still sensational, but maybe just on the decline. One bottle left, when to drink?

  • This is a lightly oaked merlot that has undergone a wondrous transformation after a decade of ageing. The youthful plum and black cherry flavours have developed and transformed into the most amazing yet delicate complex savoury palate I have tasted in a merlot in a long while. Rich earthy flavours mingle with a graphite minerality, sweet tobacco and darkly roasted meaty flavours. Some residual sweetness remains on the palate for a perfect balance. The tannins are super fine, providing great structure and a nice textural experience. A long extended finish allowing the savoury flavours to linger. A very complete tasting experience.

A very unpretentious wine that has transformed into something quite remarkable. A real cinderella moment. Throughly delectable.

  • Hasn't changed much in 12 months although the primary fruit is clearly fading. Secondary notes still impressive. One of my greatest auction buys at $6.

  • Can I call this 'old school' again? Old red fruits, old wood, crumbling tannin with plenty of grip. Not all all fruity, dave for some dark fruits, but just how I like it. 9yrs is almost getting old for Oz merlot!
