Pop and pour, enjoyed over 2 hours. Surprised by the power of this wine 9 years from vintage date. Dark purple color approaching black; intense concentration. Bit of heat showing on the nose. Would never have known this was 9 years from vintage - plenty of vitality left and a strong backbone - - maybe would even benefit from more time. Not getting the oak that others have noted; probably the result of bottle age. However, drying tannins are still quite prominent in the mouth. Deep purple fruit - mostly plum with some blackberry. Medium finish.

Just gets better and better. With a couple more years this has little less plummy-fruit, but the overall feel is a lot richer with light tar and glycerin. Soft, apparent tannins complement everything. I did love the fruitiness of a couple years ago, but I bumped a point based on improving complexity.

Elegant wine with black cherries, plums, licorice, chocolate, and coffee. Well balanced, medium to full body, and a long finish.

Still surprisingly tight & dense. Very full-bodied for a merlot. More cab-like. Will wait several more years before opening second bottle.
