Blackberry, plum, cassis, black tea leaf, vanilla, dark spice and slight tar. Very tasty with a rich dish. Lacking complexity. Tannins medium plus; I think this wine still could benefit from another 2 years plus.
Pop and pour. Some sediment noticeable in glass on first pour (This is bottled unfiltered/unfined), probably would have benefited from decanting and the back label recommends this as well. Inky Ruby/Purple color. Medium/Fast Legs. Berry, Oak, Soy Sauce and some Spice and Floral notes on the nose. Tastes of rich/ripe Blackberries, Blueberries and Subtle Oak. Nice Balance. Rough Texture magnified by unfiltered style. Medium Long Finish. ABV 14.9% pH 3.54
Ultimately, the unfiltered style proved to be too distracting. Were it not for that, I would have rated this 3pts higher. This is information that really should be called out on the front label and not buried in the Vintners monologue on the back label. I completely missed this fact and probably would have passed altogether on this as I am not fond of this method.
