Bummer about this one, our last bottle. The prior few had been great, even up to a few months back, but unfortunately this one was off. The nose was mostly there - blue and black fruits with notes of sweet cocoa - but after a short time in the decanter it changed to a fairly unpleasant stewed smell. Flavors across the palate matched that too. I'm not totally sure if it was an off bottle or if it's really slid downhill quickly.... if you have a few you might want to check in.
Still good, but not as great as other years. Or perhaps it just has a more European restraint and less of the rich Napa boldness we've come to expect from the Elu. Agree with other comments that there might not be much benefit to further aging (though the 2003 still shines and probably will for several more years).
Still drinking well but the fruit is starting to fade so I don't think there's much benefit in holding off longer. Cab takes the forefront with notes of vanilla, tobacco, green pepper and black pepper. Blue and blackberries at the finish. Round mouthfeel, lingers nicely.
