Nose still evocative of maraschino cherry, sousbois, flowers, and menthe. Decanted off of plenty of flaky sediment. Improved and evolved over the course of dinner. Palate tending towards tertiary flavors of tar and sousbois with a definite floral note, dark cherry skin, and some menthe. Still a bit of bitter tannin and plenty of acidity to keep it all interesting. Lengthy finish of fading cherry and tar…

Really good when it’s on, a couple corked bottles here and there. Nose of sousbois, dark cherry, a floral note, and some mint. Dark cherry evolving to a dark oaky finish with enough ripe tannin to maintain interest. Nice, can’t imagine drinking a young Chianti again.

Dark garnet core to a slightly orange to clear rim. Dark cherry and earth on the nose with a hint of flowers. Same on the palate with a hint of cocoa and violet. Mid palate evolves to a rich, lengthy chocolate covered, sweet cherry finish, almost bordering on maraschino. Tannins pretty much fully resolved with great acidity. Wines like this render one unable to drink young chianti. Amazing QPR, under $10. Paired fabulously with braised beef shank and whole egg pappardelle.

Extraordinary whiff of crème de cassis initiating the nose (even every time I revisit), opening to developing savory dark forest-floor fruits; dark leather, chocolate. Medium-bodied and bright, and with surprising medium+ concentration, with full palate coverage and a crisp finish. Savory and appetizing; bright blue and black fruits with savory dark, sour cherry. Fully integrated barely-noticable tannins; the integrated acidity drives the wine through. Impressive for the vintage; still has at least 5 years ahead.

Splash decanted and drunk over the next hour or so. Deeply colored for sangio. Unmistakably Italian nose of medicinal herbs, dried flowers and forest floor. Juicy, bright and slightly viscous on the palate with flavors of licorice, plum skin and fresh tart cherries. Bright but by no means shrill, for an "off year" this bottle is right on. I clearly killed most of the case off in its youth. Drink now through 2014.
