  • Pnp but needs a bit of air to open up. Clear garnet with slight browning towards a translucent rim. Muted nose. Somewhat better on the palate which is smooth and subtle, some herbal notes too, medium tannins remind you that while this Barbaresco is at the end of its drinking window it is still a Nebbiolo... short to medium finish.
2000 was a hot vintage pretty much from flowering to harvest and it shows. While there are no burned or overripe notes, the aromatics did not develop much here as the vines never got a breather from the heat.

    Tasted non blind.

Dark garnet color in the glass, clear looking throughout. Nose of soapstone, black berries, black cherries and cardamom. Flavors of black berries, black cherries and plums. Medium to bright acidity, medium to firm tannin, full bodied. Drink now.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about 2-3 hours.

Garnet color in the glass, a little dusty looking. Nose of anise, earth and black berries. Flavors of black raspberries, plums, cherries and minerals. Medium to tart acidity, medium tannin, full bodied. Drink or hold but I'd lean towards drink now. Seems in about as good a place as it'll get.

  • Bought on release and stuck in the back of the cellar. This is very classic and typical of well-made barbaresco with a few years under its belt. Translucent red with just a bit of bricking at the margins. Subtle nose of red cherries, berries, licorice, and dried flowers. In the mouth, unmistakably aged nebbiolo with lovely tar and mineral coming to the front. Perfect age. Slightly drying on the finish and the alcohol is a bit notable here. Probably this would have been slightly better a few years ago, but it is still absolutely beautiful now.
