  • Purchased two at my local online auction at only $55 per bottle. Decided to open the one with the lower fill level. Very top shoulder fill (slightly below base neck). Cork was completely soaked all the way, but still firm. Thankfully, the wine was not majorly affected, although it tasted a little more mature than I thought it should be. Most likely not ideal storage conditions over the past 20 years.

An hour decant was sufficient. Tannins fully resolved. Notes of earth, graphite and fresh berry. The finish did not linger at all. Slightly high acidity. This bottle was definitely past its peak. I wonder what the other bottle with the higher fill level will be like.

  • This wine is still drinking well since my last tasting a few years ago. Decanted an hour. Notes of ripe dark fruit, mocha, with soft tannins and a long finish. Paired with grilled herb-marinated veal chops.

  • I didn't take notes, but the nose on this was excellent - tons of dank earth, a bit of bretty funk, and red fruit. It's the kind of wine you don't even need to drink since you can get so much pleasure from the nose alone. However, it's nice on the palate too with integrated tannins from what I remember. I wasn't playing very close attention, but this would probably have been around a 92 - 93 for me.

  • 2000 Clos de L'Oratoire Saint Emillion

    Cellared since release
Coravined x 2 nights; Jan 30-31, 2023, then opened over the next two Feb 1-2.
Purple core, with slight lightening at the rim of the glass. The nose featured black fruit, tobacco, earth, mainly mushroom and perhaps a bit of coffee- classic Bordeaux nose.
The wine was full bodied with rich black fruit showing good depth and freshness. There were definitely tastes of mocha and wet earth and the tannins were well integrated. You are drinking what your nose revealed. The wine had a 20 second finish and is drinking beautifully now (like a lot of the 2000’s) It was most enjoyable on the the 4th night, suggesting probably 5-7 years of enjoyable drinking ahead.
