Mature Syrah/Shiraz Hunter Valley Supper (Hunter Valley): Nose of mushrooms, leather, herbs, spice - black peppers, some black olives, biscuit. In the mouth medium minus intensity flavours of liquorice, aniseed, black olives, slight mushroom and leather with some spicy notes. Find tannins and it's quite warm on the medium plus length. Goes down rather too easily. Nice
Dark ruby, almost black in the glass. Expansive, powerful bouquet of predominantly black fruit - blackberries and blueberries - with lots of spice - cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric. Palate is intense, fruity (with the same black fruit, but also some wild raspberries and cherries, slightly (but not overwhelmingly) tannic, with a long, silky finish. Showed its class alongside two top S.African syrah mourvedre/syrahs of similar age (Columella 2000 and Observatory 2000). This is fine wine and great value for money !

(Delas Hermitage Marquis de Tourette Rouge) This is darker and richer, and shows more character on this tasting. A big, powerful palate, ripe and integrated, and surprisingly approachable. Fine tannins and gentle acidity. A very smoothly texture combination of power and elegance, with roasted nut and fruit flavours. The quality of the vintage shows here.
