  • My last bottle. The last time I tasted this wine was about 8 months ago, with both Paul and Cris, both of which have TNs logged, too. I seemed to enjoy the wine better then but I am less enthralled with it this time, and I can see agreeing with Paul's comment more now than I did back then. There is a green note to the nose, no question, along with pepper and smoke. The palate, fairly soft but there is a mix of chocolate and acidity, with the latter hanging in to add some tension to the wine but for the most part, fairly soft and ultimately, I would say drink now. Roasted red and blue fruits, char, typical Rosella's citrus and soy, but the latter more sweet than I care for. Ultimately, the wine finishes fine but again, I would drink now--no reason to hold any longer.

  • Ed Kurtzman Dinner - His Favs and His (Casa Murray): Dark fat nose of roasted meats, chocolate and pepper. Palate is heavy and on the flabby side. Just makes you want to move on.

  • Ed Kurtzman Comes to OC (Casa Murray - San Juan Capistrano, CA): Unappealing aromas of mashed peas and canned asparagus. The palate, however, displays dense notes blackberries, soy, and mocha.

  • Ed Kurtzman Comes To Dinner (The Murray Casa): Showed much better this time around, as opposed to my note last April. Actually, I found the wine to be excellent this time out. Coffee, dark blue and black fruit but not sappy. Some game, too. This wine can age further but it's in a good place now.

  • nose: big, ripe, and meaty nose filled with smoke, cherry pie, blackberries, liqueur tones, spices, and pepper. Very rich and ripe, but not overtly ripe. Bold and hedonistic

taste: good tannins persist, but they aren't gripping tannins with notes of blackberry pie, dark cherries, pepper, and black liqueur tones. Almost feels like a poor man's alban on the palate with the heat toned down

overall: a very rich and forward syrah. Ripe, while displaying classic syrah tones, this really does seem to be a lesser version of an alban reva. In a sense, I'm glad I'm drinking this now as this would probably destroy me on the young side(15.4%!!!). The alcohol is in check here, and while ripe, its hedonistic, but not killing me either. While not in the same ballpark as my normal style of syrah, this is an excellent syrah for those that want a more fruit forward and ripe style of syrah
