Opened for New Year’s Eve dinner. Had let it stand upright in the cellar for a couple of weeks. Decanted. Smelled and tasted like it was cooked, which is odd since I purchased directly from the winery and don’t seem to recall high temperature risks when shipped. What a shame. Oh well. Based on the flaw I won’t score. That was my last 91. I’m hoping my 92 - 96 bottles fare better.

Nose: Plum,, cassis, dark berries, chocolate, tobacco and graphite. Bit of VA in a note of balsamic, but it was not invasive. Palate: Layer upon layer of blackberry, macerated cherry, plum and dark raspberry. Graphite, beef blood,, leather and cocoa nibs. Beautiful acidity, and a silky mouthfeel. Finish: Outstanding freshness that leaves behind thyme, cedar and mint notes.
Tanzer was way off the mark here. This 91 at thirty has a lot of life left. Pichon Baron-esque wine with dark layers that unfold slowly.

Amazing wine. Very dark, dense, concentrated. The fruit is very present but the tertiary characteristics shine through. So much going on here...Stayed open for 3 hours in bottle and hardly changed over that time but was pretty much good to go from the start.

Took time to open up. A mature and complex wine that was wonderful to consume.
