Decanted for an hour, probably should have went a little more but dinner was ready. Wine is still showing very well, very soft tannins little oak nice acidity and forward fruit flavors sweet cherries, rasberry, red fruits, with some white pepper

Chili, BBQ, Syrah and Other Things With River Rat (Brian Tuite's Backyard): Poured blind as part of a 6 wine syrah flight. Some aged quality on the aromatic. Smooth, becoming resolved. Dark fruit, tarry, sweet cherry and a sweet A-1 sauce note. Finishes with rosemary, creosote and riper tones with dark chocolate.

I have quite a few 2003's and 2004's of these that I acquired a few years ago at a reasonable price. Mostly I bring them to parties, because I don't feel bad if someone pours themselves a GIANT GLASS, but at the same time, I enjoy them reasonably well. This is especially true of the '04s, which so far have been less oaky and ripe than the '03s that I've had.
This one is no exception; the oak is there but in balance, and though I do get a little pruniness, it's mostly inoffensive. It even feels like a middleweight on the palate.

Popped and poured. Deep, dark purple. Brambles with some leather and spice but there was a little heat in the mix which kept me from scoring higher. Tasted alongside the 2003 which seems more balanced and composed. That being said, it was obvious that both wines were from the same source. A really fun duo of wines to taste with family over Christmas dinner.
