Native yeast for sure, and an overall profile that seemed to be akin to that of a wine at the end of a refermentation stage. Perfectly drinkable but quite disappointing based on my high expectations. Perhaps Wine Spectator is right and this should be consumed by 2016? If this is classic DuMOL then I shall pass next time. 14.2% ABV.
Dark purple in color. Cedar, tobacco, eucalyptus, and grilled meat with a terrific nose. Black cherry, plum, and red currents. Excellent depth, rich, balanced, and a long finish. I like this with the extra age. Has improved and matured but by no means too old. My last bottle. Will not be in a rush to drink my other vintages too early.
Interesting. Last bottle, and quite different from the others; a load of barnyard funk on this one, from beginning to end, and it's quite nice. I don't recall ever finding that note of funk on a DuMOL syrah, but it's working.
