New Years with the Ks and Browns: First time tasting a vin de paille and it was a treat; the nose initially showed quite oxidative, but with some air this faded into a nutty background note; peach pie, honeyed apricot, floral notes, and maybe just a hint of varnish. The palate was dense and packed, but didn't feel heavy; did not have the freshness of the Yquem, but still was thoroughly enjoyable. Would love to try another one and follow it over more time.

94 pts

I don't have much experience with Northern Rhône Vin de Paille so this was eye-opening. I expected something closer to Vin Santo but this reminded me more of a floral muscat or an old Sauternes from a low botrytis vintage. Concentrated without any sign of raisinated flavors, with delicious aromas of apricot, candied pear, and clove. None of the oily or honeyed characteristics of Marsanne. Hint of oak on the finish. This is quite sweet yet energetic. Very good. (From 375ml)

Chapoutier Ermitage Tasting (Alpharetta, GA): Amber; slight sherried note, nutty, marmelade, sweet apricot and almost orange, seems like a touch of oak, higher toned; delicious.
