This wine is a real favourite of mine, but this time I felt it lacked a bit of structure. Maybe unfair, as there was some lovely perfumed fruit, but I think I probably held it a year or two too long.

100% zweigelt made "with friendly help of Mr K" A ludicrously heavy bottle, but thankfully the alcohol content is a much more restrained and reasonable 13.5%
From a bottle opened three days previously, with about a glassful poured then, and the cork replaced. A very, very deep purple, almost black colour, with no youth evident. Powerful nose of very rich blackberries, raspberries and cherries, enrichened with a touch of chocolate, and with just a little attractive lift at the end. Really rich, plush, velvety palate, laden with black fruit (with just a touch of jamminess, but it is a bit warm). Really rich and mouthfilling, but there's also a lightness and even (on the finish) a touch of freshness, and with aeration, more and more really rather interesting flavours start to come out. The lightest of tannins only.

Quite a youthful colour. Big blackberry nose with some chocolate richness. Good palate. Much lighter than the weight of the bottle would lead you to believe. Very lush and smooth. Very rich and velvety.

Rather spent, tasted like this bottle had fallen off at this point

Spice and fruit. No major tannins, but good structure. Pure enjoyment with sophistication. Complex without being complicated.
