13.6% abv. Recent auction purchase (from the very cold Herb Farm collection cellar). Cork was hardly stained below the bottom, but looked very good, even though it broke in the middle when pulled with a waiter's corkscrew - I was able to fairly easily get the remaining piece out with a little bit of care. In any case, I was very hopeful after getting the first sniff, which offered really nice aged Bordeaux-ish aromas. Unfortunately, the palate didn't quite measure up to the promise from the sniff. It wasn't bad at all, but it seems that the wood tannin is taking over at this stage. The mouthfeel was pretty hard-edged and really limited enjoyment. Some nice flavors there, but overall, pretty decent considering the age.

Dark garnet red. Good secondary development with primary fruit (85% cab, the rest mostly cab franc) still evident. Fine alone but rare beef brought out the highlights. Ready to go after a one-hour decant; minor silty sediment strained thru a coffee filter.

Color was a medium red with some transparency but no other signs of age. Aromas of currant, blackberry, blueberry, and some anise. Palate was red fruited with currant, sage, and some licorice on a medium finish. This was fully integrated and drinking very well. A delicious wine and very happy to have followed it over the years. Drink or hold.

A bit old, but give it a 30 minute breath and very good.
